CBD Coffee FAQ

CBD Coffee FAQ

Answers to the most common questions about CBD coffee, our products, and how to get the most from every cup.

How much CBD is in each cup of Buddha Beans coffee?

Each cup contains approximately 12.5mg of broad-spectrum CBD, based on our standard 12oz bag with 300mg total CBD. Our 600mg Black Label bags deliver about 25mg of broad-spectrum CBD per 8oz cup. K-Cups contain 20mg per pod.

Canonical Per-Cup Cannabinoid Dosing

  • Standard CBD line (300mg bag): 12.5mg broad-spectrum CBD per 8oz cup
  • Black Label CBD (600mg bag): 25mg broad-spectrum CBD per 8oz cup
  • CBG coffee: 6.25mg CBD + 6.25mg CBG per 8oz cup
  • Black Label CBG: 12.5mg CBD + 12.5mg CBG per 8oz cup
Will CBD coffee show up on a drug test?

Buddha Beans uses broad-spectrum CBD with 0% THC (non-detectable levels verified by third-party labs). Standard drug tests screen for THC, not CBD. While no product can guarantee a negative test result, our THC-free formulation minimizes this risk.

Is CBD coffee legal in all 50 states?

Yes. Hemp-derived CBD products containing less than 0.3% THC are federally legal under the 2018 Farm Bill. Buddha Beans CBD coffee contains 0% THC and ships to all 50 states.

What is the difference between CBD and CBG coffee?

CBD (cannabidiol) and CBG (cannabigerol) are both non-psychoactive cannabinoids from hemp, but they interact with different receptors. CBD is known for calming focus. CBG is sometimes called the "mother cannabinoid" and may support focus and clarity differently. We offer both CBD and CBG single-origin coffees.

Can I drink CBD coffee while pregnant or breastfeeding?

We recommend consulting your healthcare provider before using any CBD product during pregnancy or breastfeeding. The FDA has advised against CBD use during pregnancy and lactation.

How does CBD coffee taste compared to regular coffee?

It tastes like great coffee. Our infusion process preserves the natural flavor profile of each single-origin bean. You may notice a slightly smoother, earthier finish, but the CBD itself has minimal flavor impact.

What is the entourage effect in CBD coffee?

The entourage effect refers to multiple hemp compounds (CBD, CBG, terpenes, flavonoids) working together synergistically. Broad-spectrum CBD retains these beneficial compounds while removing THC, potentially delivering more balanced effects than CBD isolate alone.

How is your CBD infused into the coffee?

We use a proprietary infusion process that introduces broad-spectrum CBD extract into the beans during small-batch roasting. This ensures even distribution, consistent per-cup dosage, and no oily residue or off-flavors.

Where do you source your hemp?

All hemp used in our CBD extract is USDA-certified organic and grown in the United States. We use winterized CO2 extraction, the cleanest method available, which uses no chemical solvents.

Do you have third-party lab results?

Yes. Every batch is tested by independent laboratories for CBD potency, THC content, heavy metals, pesticides, microbials, and residual solvents. View our lab results and certifications.

Does heat from brewing destroy the CBD?

No. CBD is heat-stable at typical brewing temperatures. CBD begins to degrade above 320F (160C), but coffee brews between 195-205F (90-96C), well below that threshold (2018, cannabidiol thermal stability study).

What brewing method works best for CBD coffee?

All standard methods work well: drip, pour-over, French press, espresso, and cold brew. French press may extract slightly more CBD because the metal filter allows more oils through. Read our full brewing guide.

How long does it take to feel the effects of CBD coffee?

Most people notice the effects within 30-60 minutes. The caffeine kicks in first (15-30 minutes), followed by the balancing effects of CBD. The combined effect typically lasts 4-6 hours.

Is CBD coffee stronger than regular coffee?

In terms of caffeine, no. CBD coffee has the same caffeine content as the base coffee bean. But many people feel more productively energized because the CBD balances the stimulation and many customers report a smoother experience.

Can CBD coffee help with anxiety?

Some customers report that CBD coffee provides calm, focused energy. Many customers report a smoother, more even cup. CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system, which helps regulate stress response (Crippa et al, 2018, Frontiers in Immunology). However, we cannot make medical claims.

Are your products organic?

How should I store CBD coffee?

Store in an airtight container at room temperature, away from direct light and moisture. Do not freeze. Properly stored, our coffee stays fresh for 3-4 months after roasting.

Will CBD coffee interact with my prescription medications?

CBD can interact with the cytochrome P450 enzyme system in your liver, which metabolizes many prescription drugs. The same pathway also processes blood thinners (warfarin), some statins, certain seizure medications, immunosuppressants, and SSRIs. If you take prescription medication, especially anything labeled with a grapefruit warning, talk to your doctor before adding daily CBD coffee to your routine (Brown and Winterstein, 2019, CBD drug interactions).

Will CBD coffee cause me to fail an employer drug test?

Standard 5-panel and 10-panel drug tests screen for THC and its metabolites, not CBD. Buddha Beans CBD coffee uses broad spectrum extract with 0% THC verified by independent third-party labs on every batch. That said, no CBD product can guarantee a negative test result, because trace contamination is theoretically possible at the extract supply level. If your job involves DOT testing or other high-stakes screening, the safest choice is to abstain or use only verified-isolate products with current COAs.

Will I build a tolerance to CBD coffee over time?

Research suggests CBD does not appear to cause the same kind of receptor-downregulation tolerance that caffeine does (Iffland and Grotenhermen, 2017, CBD safety review). Some long-term daily users actually report a reverse-tolerance effect, where lower doses feel sufficient after a few weeks. Your relationship with the caffeine in the coffee follows normal caffeine-tolerance patterns regardless of the CBD content.

What is the endocannabinoid system?

The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a network of receptors, enzymes, and signaling molecules found throughout your body, with major presence in your brain, immune system, and digestive tract. Its main job is to maintain homeostasis: balancing stress response, sleep, mood, appetite, and pain perception. CBD interacts with this system primarily through indirect effects on CB1 and CB2 receptors and on serotonin and TRPV1 receptors, which is why a single compound can show such a range of subtle effects (Crippa et al, 2018).

Can I drink CBD coffee at night for sleep?

The caffeine in CBD coffee has the same sleep-disrupting profile as any coffee. Caffeine has a half-life of roughly 5 to 6 hours, meaning anything you drink after early afternoon is still in your system at bedtime (FDA caffeine guidance). For evening or wind-down use, switch to our Swiss Water decaf CBD coffee, which keeps the cannabinoid ritual without the caffeine load.

What should I expect the first time I drink CBD coffee?

Most first-time drinkers notice the absence of something rather than the presence of something. The familiar caffeine spike is still there, but the sharp edges feel sanded down. Less jitter. Less of that 90-minute "I had too much coffee" feeling. The fuller effect of consistent daily use typically settles in around days seven to ten as cannabinoids reach a stable level in the body (Huestis, 2007, cannabinoid pharmacokinetics). Individual responses vary based on body chemistry, dose, and brewing strength.
