About Vietnamese coffee

Vietnam is the world's second-largest coffee producer by volume, but nearly all of it is commercial-grade Robusta destined for instant coffee. The specialty Arabica scene has emerged in the Da Lat region only in the last 15 years, with anaerobic processing as a signature technique. Buddha Beans was an early importer of Vietnamese anaerobic Arabica into the U.S. specialty market.

How Da Lat highlands coffee is processed

The Buddha Beans Vietnam lot is anaerobic natural fermentation, where the coffee cherries ferment in sealed oxygen-free containers before drying. This processing produces unusual, intense flavor profiles distinct from conventional naturals. Wine, tropical fruit, dark chocolate, and warm spice notes. The most unconventional cup in our line. Anaerobic processing pushes Arabica into flavor territory normally associated with wine or fruit fermentation.

Why Vietnamese coffee pairs with CBD

Vietnamese anaerobic naturals have so much flavor intensity that they can carry a higher cannabinoid load without losing character. That makes them the ideal base for our Black Label line, which carries 25mg of total cannabinoids per cup (twice the standard dose). The wine and spice notes layer with broad-spectrum extract in a way that no other origin pulls off.

The ZenFusion process

Every Buddha Beans CBD coffee, including this Vietnamese lot, uses our pre-roast cannabinoid infusion process called ZenFusion. We bond broad-spectrum CBD oil to the green bean before roasting, rather than spraying it on after. This produces a consistent dose per cup and protects the cannabinoid from oxidation. The Vietnamese cup retains its origin character with cannabinoid integrated cleanly into the finish.

How to brew it

The Vietnamese lot brews well across methods:

  • Pour-over (V60, Chemex): 1:16 ratio, 205°F, 3-minute brew. The cleanest way to taste the origin notes.
  • French press: 1:15 ratio, 200°F, 4-minute steep. Heavier mouthfeel; slightly higher cannabinoid yield because the metal mesh leaves more oils in the cup.
  • Drip machine: 2 tablespoons per 6oz cup. Paper filter keeps the cup clean.
  • Cold brew: 1:8 ratio, 16-hour steep at room temp. Concentrated, smooth, lasts 7 days refrigerated.

For cannabinoid absorption, drink with a little dietary fat (whole milk, oat milk, cream, MCT oil). CBD is fat-soluble; published pharmacokinetic research shows a high-fat meal increases CBD peak blood concentration about 17 times versus fasted state.
