How to Choose the Best CBD Coffee

A buyer's checklist built on things you can verify before you pay: the dose per cup, the lab certificate, the THC result, where the hemp and beans come from, and how fresh the roast is. Updated November 2026.

The six-point checklist

What to check What a good answer looks like Red flag
1. Dose per cup Milligrams per serving, with the serving defined (per 8oz cup, or per gram of coffee) Only a total per bag, or "infused with CBD" and no number
2. Published COA A certificate on the brand's site naming the lab, the batch and the test date "Lab tested" with no document, or a certificate you must email to see
3. THC result Total THC reported; "not detected" for broad-spectrum products THC missing from the certificate, or only delta-9 THC shown
4. Hemp source Where the hemp is grown; an organic claim you can look up No source at all
5. Roast date A roast date on the bag, or roasted to order No date and no roasting policy
6. Coffee origin A named country or farm region (single origin), or a named blend "Premium beans" with no origin

1. Is the dose stated per cup?

A total per bag tells you little until you know how many cups the bag makes. Good labels do the math for you. Buddha Beans states 12.5mg of CBD per 8oz cup for a 300mg, 12oz bag. Willie's Remedy states 23.4mg per serving across 16 servings in a 375mg bag. High Level Coffee defines its serving by weight: 25mg per 14g of ground coffee. Each brand defines a serving its own way, so compare the definition as well as the number.

2. Can you open the lab certificate before you buy?

A certificate of analysis (COA) is the lab's report on what is in the product. Check that it names the laboratory, carries a batch number, and shows a test date in the past year. Accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025, the international standard for testing labs, is a good sign. Then compare the measured total with the label: our current CBD coffee certificate from SC Labs measured 300.96mg CBD in a bag labeled 300mg. Our guide to reading a COA walks through each field.

3. What does the certificate say about THC?

Look for total THC, not delta-9 THC alone. Broad-spectrum extract has the THC removed, so its certificate should read "not detected" (ND). Full-spectrum extract keeps the THC naturally present in hemp; brands selling it state a limit, such as no more than 0.3% by dry weight. Neither type is wrong, but you should know which one you are buying. Federal hemp rules are changing in late 2026, so check that the brand's certificate is current.

4. Where does the hemp come from?

A named source, such as a US state, lets you ask the next question. If a brand claims organic hemp, you can search the certified operation in the USDA Organic Integrity Database.

5. How fresh is the roast?

Coffee flavor fades after roasting, and a CBD coffee is still a coffee. Look for a roast date printed on the bag or a roast-to-order policy. Buddha Beans roasts subscription orders to order and ships within 1 to 3 business days.

6. Is the coffee origin named?

Single-origin coffee comes from one country or region, so the bag can tell you what to expect in the cup. A blend can be good too, but the label should still name what is in it. Vague phrases like "premium beans" do not count.

Common questions

What should I look for when buying CBD coffee?
A milligram dose per cup, a lab certificate you can open before buying, a THC result on that certificate, a named hemp source, a roast date and a named coffee origin.
How much CBD is in a cup of CBD coffee?
It depends on the brand and how it defines a serving. Buddha Beans states 12.5mg per 8oz cup for its standard bag. Other brands we checked state 10mg, 23.4mg or 25mg per serving.
Does CBD coffee contain THC?
Broad-spectrum CBD coffee should test as THC not detected. Full-spectrum CBD coffee can contain THC up to the legal limit. The lab certificate tells you which you have.
What is a certificate of analysis (COA)?
A lab report listing the cannabinoids measured in a product sample, including CBD and THC. A useful COA names the lab, the batch and the test date.
