How Much Caffeine Is in CBD Coffee? Full Caf vs Half Caf vs Decaf
A standard 8 oz cup of drip coffee carries roughly 95 mg of caffeine. Our half-caf runs 50 to 70 mg. The Swiss Water decaf is close to none. All three carry the same CBD, around 12.5 mg per cup from a 300 mg bag. So the only variable you are actually choosing between is caffeine, and the flavor stays much closer than most people expect.
That last part surprises people. Decaf has a bad reputation earned in the 1980s by beans that were cheap to begin with and stripped with solvents. That is not what is in the bag now.
The three options, by the numbers
| Colombia | Half-Caf Colombia | Decaf Colombia | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Caffeine per 8 oz | Around 95 mg | 50 to 70 mg | Negligible |
| CBD per cup | 12.5 to 15 mg | Around 12.5 mg | Around 12.5 mg |
| How it is made | Single origin, washed | 50/50 full and decaf | Swiss Water Process |
| Tastes like | Bright citrus, caramel | Caramel, milk chocolate, citrus | Milk chocolate, hazelnut, light caramel |
| Best for | Morning | Afternoon | Evening, or caffeine sensitivity |
All three come from Colombia, so you are not trading origin quality for less caffeine. The half-caf blends full-caffeine and decaf beans from the same farms.
Does caffeine work against the CBD?
Not in any direct chemical sense. Caffeine blocks adenosine receptors, which is why it keeps you alert. CBD interacts with an entirely different system. They are not competing for the same target, and one does not neutralize the other.
What people report is more about the overall experience than the pharmacology. If you drink CBD coffee because you want the ritual without the edge, a large caffeine dose is working against the reason you bought it. If you drink it because you want alertness with less of the jittery feeling, full caffeine is the point.
Neither is wrong. They are different goals, and the caffeine level is how you pick between them. I would not tell anyone that decaf is the correct version.
What Swiss Water Process actually means
Most decaf is made with chemical solvents, usually methylene chloride or ethyl acetate. The solvent pulls caffeine out of the green bean and is then evaporated off.
Swiss Water uses no solvents. Green beans soak in water saturated with coffee solubles, so the flavor compounds have nowhere to go, and the caffeine passes through a carbon filter that catches the caffeine molecules and leaves the rest. It costs more, and it is why the decaf still tastes like Colombian coffee rather than a flattened version of it.
It is also the reason our half-caf tastes consistent. The decaf half is not a different, worse coffee sitting next to a good one.
Which should you drink?
Go full caffeine if coffee is your morning engine and you are adding CBD to take the sharp edges off. This is most people.
Go half-caf if you already drink two or three cups a day and the last one keeps you up, or if you are tapering down. Cutting the dose in half is easier to stick to than switching to decaf outright, because the cup still tastes like coffee and still does something.
Go decaf if caffeine genuinely does not agree with you, or if you want a cup after dinner. Caffeine has a half-life of about five hours, so a 4 pm coffee still has roughly half its caffeine working at 9 pm.
A simple way to find your line
Keep your morning cup exactly as it is and change only the afternoon one. Most people who think they have a caffeine problem have a timing problem instead.
Run the half-caf as your second cup for a week and see whether you fall asleep faster. If nothing changes, caffeine was not the culprit and you can go back. If it does change, you have your answer without giving up the coffee you actually like in the morning.
