Nitro washed refers to a proprietary post-harvest processing method that incorporates nitrogen gas during fermentation or washing stages of coffee bean preparation. It’s an experimental evolution of the traditional washed process, designed to precisely control oxidation and microbial activity by introducing an inert, oxygen-free environment. The result is a coffee with striking clarity, amplified fruit character, and a clean, vibrant finish which is a combination often difficult to achieve with standard methods.

This process typically involves 

  • Introducing nitrogen (N₂) gas into the fermentation tank or chamber, displacing oxygen
  • Creating an anaerobic (oxygen-free) environment to enhance fermentation control

  • Carefully timing the exposure and duration to create desired flavor profiles
