Specialty coffee that doesn't upset your stomach.
For third-wave drinkers whose stomach said no to La Colombe, Stumptown, Counter Culture, or Blue Bottle. Same craft. Same single-origin sourcing. Low acid, smooth body, no jitters.
Try a Sampler Read the Lab WorkYou didn't quit specialty coffee. Your stomach did.
You used to rank washed Ethiopian lots blind. You followed Stumptown's Hair Bender across label changes. You knew Counter Culture's Hologram from their seasonal Costa Rica. La Colombe was the airport cup that didn't make you sad.
Then your forties happened, or your gut bacteria changed, or one too many stress weeks rewired your cortisol response. The cup you loved started turning on you at noon. The jitter, the chest pound, the stomach turn, the crash worse than the wake-up was good.
You're not done with coffee. You're done with the version that punishes you for drinking it.
The cup is the same. The chemistry is different.
Buddha Beans® is built for the drinker who lost specialty and wants it back without the punishment. Three changes:
Lower-acid origins. No bright washed Kenyan or Yirgacheffe. Huila Colombia, Chiapas Mexico, Kayanza Burundi. Naturally rounder coffees, less chlorogenic acid in the green bean before the roaster touches them.
Medium to medium-dark roast curves. Most third-wave shops stop just past first crack to preserve origin character. We let development run longer. Breaks down more of the acid that triggers gastric response, pulls out chocolate, brown sugar, walnut.
A measured hemp infusion. Broad-spectrum hemp bonds into the bean during the roast. Doesn't get you high. Doesn't sedate. Softens the caffeine response on the nervous system. The cup feels like coffee used to feel.
What this cup is: low acid, smooth body, full flavor, gentle finish. Same caffeine load as a regular cup, softer arrival on the nervous system.
What this cup isn't: a wellness gimmick, a decaf substitute, a medical product, or a watered-down specialty coffee. The bean is the product. The hemp is the accent.
How it compares on observable axes.
Four things you can measure or look up about any coffee: caffeine, cup pH, green processing, freshness from roast. Here's where Buddha Beans sits next to the third-wave roasters customers most often switch from.
| Roaster | Caffeine (12oz, brewed) | Typical cup pH | Processing focus | Days from roast to door |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Buddha Beans Coffee Co. | 95 to 130 mg | 5.2 to 5.5 | Washed and natural, lower-acid origins | 3 to 7 days |
| La Colombe | 120 to 160 mg | 4.9 to 5.2 | Washed, brighter African and Central American | 14 to 30 days (warehouse) |
| Stumptown | 120 to 160 mg | 4.8 to 5.1 | Mixed, leans light to highlight origin | 10 to 21 days (warehouse) |
| Counter Culture | 110 to 150 mg | 4.9 to 5.2 | Mixed, heavy washed origin focus | 7 to 21 days |
| Blue Bottle | 115 to 155 mg | 4.9 to 5.2 | Mixed, lighter roasts on flagships | 7 to 30 days (warehouse) |
Caffeine ranges from public brand documentation and standard 1:16 brew ratios. Cup pH ranges from published cupping research on light versus medium-dark roast profiles. Roast-to-door ranges reflect direct-to-consumer shipping versus wholesale warehouse distribution. We make no safety or health claims about any other roaster; this is a description of cup chemistry, not a comparison of product safety.
Why this cup is low acid and low jitter.
Three coordinated decisions in sourcing, roasting, and infusion. Each helps. Together they make a real difference for a sensitive drinker.
- Start with lower-acid origins. Skip bright Kenyan and Ethiopian washed lots. Choose origins with naturally lower chlorogenic acid: Huila Colombia, Chiapas Mexico, Kayanza Burundi. Moderate elevation, processing that rounds the cup before the roaster touches it. That's why a Mexico Chiapas smooths where a Yirgacheffe stings.
- Roast longer through the Maillard phase. Most third-wave roasters end at first crack to preserve origin clarity. We let development run longer, into medium and medium-dark. Breaks down more chlorogenic acid in the bean. Trade-off: some bright citric notes. Gain: chocolate, brown sugar, walnut, and a cup that lands easier on a sensitive stomach. Read the lab results for development time on each lot.
- Bond a measured hemp dose during the roast. A calibrated dose of broad-spectrum hemp extract is bonded into the bean's cell structure during the roast (our ZenFusion process). Calibrated to soften the caffeine response, not to deliver a strong hemp effect. Bonded during roast, not sprayed after, means even dosing from first cup to last and no oily residue.
Bring the lab report to your doctor.
The right question to ask before changing what you drink, especially if you take prescription medications. Every batch ships with a third-party certificate of analysis from an ISO 17025-accredited lab: eleven cannabinoids (THC non-detect, every batch), sixty-six pesticides, four heavy metals, five mycotoxins, twenty-one residual solvents, and the standard microbial screen.
The certificate is published online, downloadable as a PDF, indexed by the batch ID on your bag. No account, no email gate. We're coffee roasters, not pharmacists. We'd rather you ask the right person.
The lab results page is open to everyone.
Scan the table, download the PDF for your batch, compare numbers on the report to claims on the bag. If they don't match, you have written evidence.

Questions worth answering before you buy.
Why does my regular specialty coffee upset my stomach?
Three culprits. Roast level: light roasts retain more chlorogenic acid, the compound that triggers gastric acid. Extraction: pour-over and Aeropress pull more soluble acids than slower methods. Freshness: a bag roasted in the last seven days releases more CO2 and can feel sharper. Buddha Beans roasts medium to medium-dark, ships within two business days of roast, and starts with naturally low-acid origins (Chiapas, Huila, Kayanza).
Is this just lower-caffeine coffee?
No. A 12-ounce cup at standard 1:16 ratio delivers roughly 95 to 130 milligrams, the same range as Stumptown's Hair Bender or La Colombe's Corsica. What's different is the cup profile: low-acid origins, medium-dark roast curves that break down chlorogenic acid, and a measured hemp infusion that softens the caffeine response on the nervous system. The caffeine arrives. It doesn't arrive with the chest pound.
How is this different from cold brew?
Cold brew lowers perceived acidity by extracting at low temperature over twelve to twenty-four hours. Trade-off: cold brew is often double the caffeine because the grounds-to-water ratio is higher, and the flavor is flatter. Buddha Beans gives you hot-coffee ritual, hot-coffee flavor, and a comparable low-acid profile, without the caffeine ramp-up.
Will I lose the flavor of third-wave specialty?
No. Every lot is SCA 80+ specialty grade, single-origin, direct-trade since 2018. Roast date on every bag, cupped and approved before each batch ships. You trade sharp citric acidity for chocolate, brown sugar, and walnut. You don't trade craft for comfort.
Is the hemp necessary, or is the bean alone gentler?
Both contribute, and they do different jobs. Bean choice and roast curve handle the stomach side: lower-acid origins, longer Maillard development, slightly darker finish. The hemp infusion handles the nervous-system side: softens the caffeine spike that drives jitters and chest pound. The bean alone is already gentler than a light-roasted Kenyan. The hemp addresses the jitter.
How does the acid level compare to La Colombe, Stumptown, or Blue Bottle?
Mainstream third-wave roasters lean medium-light to highlight origin character, which keeps measurable cup acidity in the pH 4.8 to 5.1 range. Buddha Beans roasts medium to medium-dark on lower-acid origins, which lands the brewed cup closer to pH 5.2 to 5.5. That's a meaningful gap on a sensitive stomach. No safety claims about other roasters, just a description of cup chemistry.
What does "broad-spectrum hemp" mean, and will it show up on a drug test?
Broad-spectrum means the full plant profile minus the THC, removed to non-detect by an independent ISO 17025 lab. Every batch publishes a certificate of analysis. We can't make legal promises about every employer's testing protocol, but the analytical answer is non-detect. Lab report by batch ID.
How fresh is the coffee when it arrives?
Most orders roast and ship within one to two business days. Roast date on every bag. Transit is three to five business days on USPS Priority Mail or UPS Ground from Culver City. Bag in hand inside one week of roast.
Can I try one bag before subscribing?
